Meteorology: Red alert in Taif... Thunderstorms and strong winds hit 5 regions

The National Center for Meteorology issued weather warnings on Sunday covering five regions, including Taif, which was placed under a red alert, due to forecasts of thunderstorms and strong winds that could lead to a sharp decrease in visibility and flash floods.

The weather conditions include the regions of Mecca, Medina, Al-Baha, Asir and Jazan, amid warnings of thunderstorms and hail in some areas.

Areas covered by warnings and rain forecasts for Sunday, May 10, 2026:

Warnings for the Makkah region:

• Red: Taif.
• Orange: Adham, Bani Yazid, Maysan
• Yellow: Al-Ardiyat, the Holy Capital Mecca, Al-Kamil, Al-Jumum

Alerts for the Medina region:

• Red: No red alerts in the area
• Orange: Al-Hanakiya, Al-Mahd
• Yellow: Valley of the Branch

Warnings for the Al-Baha region:

• Red: No red alerts in the area
• Orange: Al-Baha, Al-Qura, Al-Mandaq, Baljurashi, Bani Hassan.
• Yellow: Al-Hajrah, Al-Khawah, Far'ah Ghamid Al-Zanad, Qalwah.

Asir region alerts:

• Red alert: There are no red alerts in the area.
• Orange alert: Abha, Ahad Rafidah, Khamis Mushait, Al-Harjah, Al-Raboua, Al-Farsha, Sarat Abidah, Dhahran Al-Janoub, Al-Namas, Balqarn, Tanomah.
• Yellow alert: Al Majardah, Bariq, Rijal Alma, Mahayil

Jazan region alerts:

• Red: No red alerts in the area
• Orange: Al-Harth, Al-Raith, Al-Ardah, Al-Aydabi, Fayfa, Haroub.
• Yellow: Abu Arish, Ahad Al Masarihah, Al Tuwal, Al Fatihah, Samtah, Sabya, Damad

The most prominent expected weather phenomena:

• Light to moderate rain, and heavy rain in Taif
• Active to very strong winds
• Reduced horizontal visibility
• lightning
• Hail fell
• Possibility of flash floods and valleys

Important note:

The center called for caution, especially while driving, and urged people to avoid flood channels and areas where water accumulates, while also emphasizing the need to follow updates regularly.
