Red alert issued Thursday for heavy rain, lightning, and strong winds hitting Saudi Arabia

The National Center for Meteorology issued a series of weather warnings regarding the weather conditions and rainfall forecasts, including parts of Jazan and Asir, accompanied by lightning, thunder, thunderstorms, strong winds, hail showers, and flash floods.

These warnings will continue until 9:00 PM on Thursday, July 9, 2026, with varying levels of warning between red and orange depending on the severity of the weather conditions in each region.

Areas covered by warnings and rain forecasts for Thursday, July 9, 2026:

Asir region:

• The red alert includes : Al-Harjah, Al-Rubu’, Al-Farsha, Sarat Abidah, Dhahran Al-Janoub, Abha, Ahad Rafidah, Khamis Mushait
• The orange alert includes: Al-Namas, Balqarn, Tanomah, Asir, Rijal Alma, Al-Majardah, Bariq
• Yellow alert includes: None

Jazan:

• The red alert includes: Al-Harth, Al-Da'ir, Al-Raith, Al-Ardah, Al-Aydabi, Fifa, Haroub
• The orange alert includes: Abu Arish, Ahad Al Masarihah, Al Tuwal, Al Fatihah, Samtah, Sabya, Damad,
• Yellow alert includes: None

The most prominent expected weather phenomena:

• Heavy rain
• strong winds
• Lightning and thunderbolts
• hail showers
• floodwaters

The center called for caution, especially while driving, and stressed the need to keep up with updates.
