Arab Weather - Typhoon Wipha, which struck China, caused significant material damage with winds reaching speeds of nearly 167 km/h as it swept through Hong Kong, before weakening to a tropical storm as it entered Guangdong Province in southern China.
According to the latest storm observations, maximum wind speeds reached more than 167 km/h in Hong Kong, with higher gusts recorded in some areas, reaching 234 km/h. More than 110 mm of rain fell in just three hours in Hong Kong. Watch the video of strong winds sweeping people out into the streets.
The cyclone caused the collapse of some scaffolding, uprooted thousands of trees, and caused other material and human damage. In Hong Kong, the highest warning was declared for a period of nearly 7 hours. More than 250 people were transferred to emergency shelters, and about 26 were treated in public hospitals.
