20 flights cancelled and residents evacuated after Bali volcano eruption

Arab Weather - The Indonesian island of Flores witnessed a powerful eruption this morning from the Leutopi Laki-Laki volcano, sending thick clouds of ash rising to a height of about 10 kilometers into the atmosphere. Official warnings of continued seismic activity and a raised alert level in the region are in place.

More than 20 flights suspended due to volcanic ash

Indonesian authorities said volcanic ash from the eruption of Mount Leutupi has caused the cancellation of at least 20 flights to and from Bali International Airport, including international flights to Australia and domestic flights to major tourist destinations such as Labuan Bajo.

Evacuation of residents from villages near the volcano

The National Disaster Mitigation Agency reported that volcanic ash reached several residential villages, forcing residents to leave their homes overnight, as the risk of volcanic collapses and secondary explosions escalated.

Official warnings against approaching the crater

In an urgent statement, the Indonesian Geological Agency warned citizens and tourists to stay within 7 kilometers of the crater of the Liutubi Laki-Laki volcano, noting that the area remains under close seismic monitoring.

No human losses so far, but caution is necessary.

Despite the intensity of the eruption and the density of the ash, no human casualties or significant material damage have been recorded at the time of writing. However, memories of last November's eruption, which killed nine people and displaced thousands, are reminiscent of the volcano's ashfall.
