And authorities expect the bad weather to continue this week as the "rain bomb" continues to head south along the Australian coast, in one of the worst environmental disasters that has so far killed nine people.

The Australian Meteorological Service has warned that strong thunderstorms and heavy rains are expected to lead to "sudden floods" that are likely to claim more lives, in a large part of the coastal region on the Pacific Ocean.
