Iraq: Signs of a heat wave easing and a cooling off period.

Arab Weather - Analyses and weather maps issued by the Arab Weather Center indicate that a heat wave will continue to affect most areas of Iraq over the next few days. However, it is expected to begin gradually receding toward the end of July and the beginning of August, as a cooler air mass rushes toward the region from the north.

Monday, July 28, 2025: Heat wave continues with high intensity

Temperatures will remain 5 to 7 degrees Celsius above average, with extremely hot weather expected in various regions. Temperatures are expected to reach 50 degrees Celsius in the capital, Baghdad, while exceeding that mark in the southern regions, particularly in Basra, Maysan, and neighboring areas. Medium and high clouds will appear in the north of the country during the afternoon hours, and winds will be westerly to northwesterly at moderate speeds.

Tuesday, July 29, 2025: A gradual decline in temperatures begins.

Temperatures will drop slightly, but remain 4 to 6 degrees Celsius higher than average. Extremely hot weather will continue, especially in the south of the country, where temperatures will reach 50 degrees Celsius, and close to that in the capital, Baghdad.
The winds will be northwesterly, moderate in speed, and sometimes active in open areas.

Wednesday, Thursday, and Friday: A significant decrease in the intensity of the heat in the north and center of the country, and a relaxation of the atmosphere.

The heat wave is easing across most parts of the country while continuing in the southern regions. Temperatures continue to drop in northern and central Iraq, returning to their usual levels for this time of year by the end of the month and the beginning of August, when temperatures in Baghdad will return to around 44 degrees Celsius. However, the weather remains extremely hot in the south of the country, especially in Basra, Maysan and the surrounding areas, where temperatures will remain close to the 50-degree mark.
