A heat dome has hit the Maghreb hard, placing it among the hottest places on Earth over the past 24 hours.

Arab Weather - The prevailing weather system in the northern hemisphere is still forcing the upper air masses to the south to penetrate directly over the Maghreb countries. The continuation of this weather system acts as a trap for hot air over these regions, forming what is known as a heat dome, which imposes scorching weather in some areas of the Maghreb countries.

Algeria records the highest temperature in the world

According to the latest weather data, the city of Adrar in southern Algeria recorded extremely high temperatures of 47.9°C yesterday, Thursday, making it the highest temperature recorded anywhere in the world in the last 24 hours.

The city is located in the Adrar state in the southwest of Algeria, which is the number one state in the classification of states according to the Algerian administrative organization. The state has a desert climate and most of its terrain is sandy with barren rocky areas in the north of the state called Hamadat. The state has a rural-urban character and its population is relatively small compared to its area. Among its most important cities are Adrar, Reggane, Tsabit, Zawiya Konta, Tamanrasset, and Oulf Fenoughil.
