How did the celebration of Arab Environment Day begin?

The celebration of Arab Environment Day, or what is sometimes known as “Arab Environment Day,” began in 1986 in the Tunisian capital.

This is due to a decision issued by the Arab League Council to hold a meeting to discuss environmental issues and the challenges it faces, and how to preserve and protect the environment and maintain the balance of diverse ecosystems.

This meeting was held, and based on its results, the Council of Arab Environment Ministers was established, which assumes responsibilities for preserving the environment and coordinating among Arab countries in this regard. As a result, the 14th of October every year was designated as a date to celebrate Arab Environment Day, with the aim of working to preserve and protect the environment.

The goal of Arab Environment Day

The goal of Arab Environment Day is to raise awareness of the environmental challenges and issues facing the entire world, including the Arab world. It also seeks to enhance joint cooperation between Arab countries to confront crises and risks that threaten the environment in these countries. In 2022, the slogan “Confronting Environmental Crises and Disasters” was chosen for Arab Environment Day, with the aim of raising awareness of environmental challenges and problems such as pollution of water resources, global warming, waste accumulation, and others. This helps countries take concrete actions towards promoting a green economy in the future and achieving sustainable development goals.
