The sudden fall of snow on that day disrupted traffic and transportation between and within cities, and caused traffic jams and confusion during working hours in universities and many departments and institutions.

The snowfall came at that time, accompanied by heavy rain, after a wave of frost and rain that lasted for more than two weeks and damaged crops and damaged large areas of them.

Cause of sudden snow

Jordan was affected by a state of atmospheric instability, but it was of an exceptional type, as this condition led to thunderstorms with snow in areas less known for its snowfall and accumulation than other neighboring heights.

This happened as a result of the great cooling in the different layers of the atmosphere over a period of two weeks, and this was combined with great humidity in all layers of the atmosphere, as the prevailing eastern winds at that time contributed to preserving the life of the snow crystals from the place they formed in the clouds until they reached the relatively warm surface of the earth, which is not usually appropriate. snowfall and accumulation.

The result was the accumulation of 5-10 cm of snow in areas east of Zarqa, southeast of the capital, Amman and Irbid, while the accumulated snow did not reach the heights of Ajloun and West Balqa, which are known for their heavy snow!
