This is the text of the statement of the Jordanian General Iftaa Department on monitoring and sighting the crescent and investigating the crescent of Ramadan

In the name of God, the most gracious, the most merciful

Praise be to God, Lord of the worlds, and prayers and peace be upon the most honorable of creation and messengers, our master Muhammad, his family, companions, and followers. And after:

The General Iftaa Department, since it was entrusted with the task of announcing the beginning of the lunar months, monitors the new moons at the beginning and end of each month, in compliance with the words of God Almighty: (They ask you about the new moons. Scientifically accurate based on scientific data and the study of reports provided by the competent authorities of astronomers who make accurate calculations for the moment of the birth of the crescent and the occurrence of conjunction, and the duration of its stay on the horizon, and the possibility of achieving vision, and presenting the results to the Council of Fatwa, Research and Islamic Studies.

Accordingly, the General Ifta Department held a meeting with the astronomical and scientific authorities specialized in monitoring the crescents to study the scientific data for the circumstances of the birth and sighting of the crescents daily, including the crescent of the blessed month of Ramadan, as the moon’s phases are monitored since the beginning of the month of Sha’ban, and this monitoring continues until the beginning of the month of Ramadan is announced. Honorable, the General Ifta Department also holds scientific seminars in cooperation with the Arab Federation for Astronomy and Space Sciences, the Jordanian Astronomical Society and the Royal Geographical Center, in which Islamic scholars and astronomers participate in the level of the Islamic world to exchange experiences, scientific developments and jurisprudential opinions.

The Department of General Iftaa and the Council of Iftaa, Research and Islamic Studies, with the help of God Almighty and then the specialists from astronomers and scientific committees, continue to investigate the crescent of the blessed month of Ramadan on the twenty-ninth day of the month of Sha’ban to prove the sighting in compliance with the noble prophetic directives, in the words of the Prophet, may God’s prayers and peace be upon him: (Fast To see it, and break your fast to see it, and if you are foolish, then complete the thirty days of Sha'ban) Agreed upon.

We ask God Almighty to make us reach the blessed month of Ramadan, and to make it a month of goodness, right and blessing for the Arab and Islamic nation.
