The incidence rate is high in Turkey

Turkey still boasts the relatively low total Corona deaths (about 39,000), and the authorities say that the epidemic is still under control - thanks to God Almighty - due to the country's strong health care system, but the sudden rise in the number of infections this month is cause for concern.

After a second period of restrictions imposed by the Turkish government last November, the number of daily injuries decreased to about 6,000, as of mid-February. But once the government began easing restrictions in March, a new wave hit Turkey.

The government then decided to re-impose restrictions and precautionary measures at the beginning of April, but this was not sufficient to limit the spread of the infection, which reached its peak this month (April) with more than 60 thousand new daily infections and more than 300 deaths.

The expected reasons for this sudden increase in the number of injuries:

• Lifting restrictions early: Some criticize the Turkish government's actions to lift the restrictions too early, while the vaccination process was not taking place quickly enough, as more than 22 million people have been vaccinated so far in Turkey, which has a population of 82 million, where Turkey is used in a way. The main Chinese vaccine, Sinovac, as well as smaller numbers of Pfizer-Biontech, and the Russian Sputnik V vaccine.

• Organizing conferences: Another criticism is that the ruling Justice and Development Party organized crowded conferences in March, while many social gatherings and public protests were banned.

• A new strain of the virus : Scientists also say that the new variants that have occurred to the virus, especially the United Kingdom strain (Kent), have accelerated the rate of infection.

Whatever the cause of the new wave of Corona virus in Turkey, President Erdogan has finally announced a complete lockdown, in effect today, Thursday (16:00 GMT) until May 17. The procedures continue throughout the remaining days of Ramadan and the days of Eid al-Fitr.

President Erdoan said, "As Europe enters the stage of reopening its doors, we must quickly reduce our number of cases to less than 5,000, so as not to be left behind."

Last year, Turkey witnessed a 70% decrease in the number of foreign visitors. The tourism sector is hoping the lockdown will help reopen in time for the summer season.
