Sweltering heat in Europe. Spain breaks highest June temperature since 1965.

Arab Weather - Parts of Western Europe are experiencing an intense heat wave, pushing temperatures to historic records for June in both Spain and Portugal, a new indicator of the worsening of extreme weather conditions in the region.

In the town of El Granado in southwestern Spain, official data recorded a temperature of 46.0°C yesterday, breaking Spain's national record for June, which was 45.2°C in Seville on June 27, 1965—nearly 60 years ago.

In Portugal, the Alvega region in central Portugal experienced a temperature spike of 45.4°C, surpassing the previous record of 44.6°C recorded in the same area on June 17, 2017, making this the hottest June in the country's history.

These figures come amid a heat wave gripping the Iberian Peninsula, accompanied by dry weather conditions and calm winds, which exacerbate surface temperatures and increase the risk of fires.

Meteorologists warn that the recurrence of such record-breaking heat waves is a direct result of global climate change, and that previously temperate regions are no longer immune to extreme continental heat that may recur and intensify in the coming years.
