Satellite images show the clear lack of vegetation cover in Jordan to date

Arab Weather - Satellite images showed a noticeable difference in the vegetation cover in northern and central Jordan between January 8, 2024 and January 8, 2025, and also showed differences in the amount of snow on Mount Sheikh, the Lebanon Mountains, and the Sweida Mountains.

Satellite images from NASA show that the northern and central regions of the Kingdom are witnessing a clear shortage in vegetation cover areas so far, which shows that the rainfall groups are less than expected for this period, as most regions, especially the northern and central regions, are witnessing a significant decrease in rainfall amounts. This is due to the unusual behavior of the air depressions, which were crossing Egyptian lands and moving quickly towards northern Saudi Arabia.

As for the previous rainy season to date, the Kingdom was affected by several active and productive weather events, which brought abundant amounts of rain to both the northern and central regions. That year’s Al-Mubarakiya was characterized by rainfall groups that were around or above the normal rates that were expected to be achieved in those regions. The abundant rains and warm periods that alternated between the weather events helped stimulate the growth of grasses in many areas, which made the vegetation cover extend over large areas in the north and center of the Kingdom, as shown by satellite images. Praise be to God.

While the snow density was greater this year on the mountains of Syria and Lebanon due to the cold periods that the Levant witnessed, the same images show that the snow cover was less last year due to the warmth of the rainy season.
