A severe storm and waves up to 7 meters high are heading from Cyprus towards the Syrian coast on Sunday evening.
A powerful Mediterranean storm, currently centered around the island of Cyprus, is heading towards the Syrian coast in the coming hours, amid warnings of strong winds, heavy rain and high sea waves, with a deep low-pressure system measuring about 994 millibars centered over the island.
According to weather data, the low pressure system is moving eastward to gradually affect the Syrian coastal regions, especially the Latakia Governorate , in addition to the Iskenderun region, accompanied by an unstable air mass and active to strong winds.
Coastal areas are expected to experience strong winds with gusts reaching or exceeding 100 kilometers per hour , potentially leading to rough seas and high waves. Wave heights are estimated to reach between 6 and 7 meters , a level that could pose a danger to maritime navigation and fishing activities.
The storm is also expected to be accompanied by heavy rainfall, leading to flash floods in some low-lying areas, in addition to reduced horizontal visibility due to the intensity of the rainfall and winds.
Experts advise residents of coastal areas to take precautions, especially near beaches, and to avoid marine activities during the storm, while following weather updates regularly.
Forecasts indicate that the peak impact of the weather system will be during the evening and night hours, before the intensity of the low-pressure system gradually decreases as it moves eastward.
