Unprecedented disaster in Sudan: Arbaat Dam collapse destroys 20 villages

<p style=";text-align:left;direction:ltr">Arab Weather - The Sudanese Ministry of Health announced that the collapse of a dam due to heavy rains in eastern Sudan led to the death of at least 132 people, in a new tragedy to strike the country suffering from famine as a result of the civil war that has been ongoing for more than a year.</p><p style=";text-align:left;direction:ltr"> Several people are still missing after the collapse of the Arbaat Dam, which contains a reservoir that is considered the main source of fresh water for the city of Port Sudan near the Red Sea, according to the electronic news website of the Sudanese newspaper Al-Taghyeer.</p><p style=";text-align:left;direction:ltr"> Citing eyewitnesses, the website reported that the floods destroyed homes, swept away vehicles, and forced residents to flee to higher ground, according to Bloomberg News Agency.</p><p style=";text-align:left;direction:ltr"> This summer, heavy rains and flooding in Sudan affected an estimated 317,000 people and killed 39, according to estimates by the United Nations Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs.
