الحقيقة هي أن هذه الظاهرة الطبيعية تحدُث عندما تُغطي الغيوم الرقيقة العالية السماء، بالتزامُن مع اكتمال ( أو شبه اكتمال إضاءة القمر)،حيثُ أن هذه الغيوم العالية تتكون من ملايين البلورات الجليدية المتناهية الصغر و تعمل هذه البلورات على كسر الأشعة المنعكسة عن القمر نحو الارض بزاوية 22 درجة،و حينها يظهر للناظر من الارض بأن هناك هالة محيطة بالقمر. و هي في الحقيقة تُشبه في مبدأها كثيراً تشكل قوس المطر أو تشكُل هالة نهاراً حول الشمس.
هذا وتغطي سماء المملكة حالياً مع ساعات ليلة الأربعاء/الخميس كميات كبيرة من السُحُب العالية بالتزامن مع اكتمال اضاءة القمر مما أدى إلى تشكُل الهالة بهذا الشكل الواضح.
