Makkah | A total eclipse darkens the sky and the stars appear at night at the height of the day on this date.

Arab Weather - Astronomical calculations indicate that the Arabian Peninsula, including the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia, will witness a rare and historic astronomical event on the second day of August 2027. This event will be a solar eclipse, expected to be visible across the Kingdom, with totality expected in the western parts of the country, including several major cities.

All eyes turn to Mecca

The sun in Mecca will disappear completely for 5 minutes.

Arab Weather experts believe this eclipse will be the most distinctive for the Kingdom, as it is a total eclipse that will cover major cities in the southwestern sector of the Kingdom, most notably Mecca. The moon will block the sun 100%, a rare sight during the midday hours, meaning day will turn into night and the stars will appear at noon.

• Total eclipse peak: 13:26:41
• End of total eclipse: 13:29:16
• End of partial eclipse: 14:53:25

The total eclipse will also include other cities, such as Jeddah, Abha, Jazan, Al-Baha, and Taif. The moon's obscuration of the sun will decrease the further east you go, but it will not fall below 60% in the Eastern Province. This means that most regions of the Kingdom will witness a unique eclipse, with varying degrees of intensity.
