An unusual low pressure system brings thunderstorms and hail to several regions in the Maghreb.
Arab Weather - Advanced numerical models at the Arab Weather Center indicate that northern Algeria and Tunisia will be affected by unusual summer thunderstorms in the coming days. This is the result of a low-pressure system centered in the upper atmosphere, causing atmospheric disturbances that may lead to the formation of cumulonimbus clouds, which bring rain, over several regions.
Rainfall concentration in mountainous areas
Arab Weather Center experts said that computer simulations of rain forecasts indicate that thunderstorms will be concentrated particularly in the mountainous regions of northern Algeria and northern Tunisia, especially during the afternoon and evening hours starting today, Friday, and continuing in the coming days. Rain is expected to be heavy at times and accompanied by thunderstorms and locally heavy hail showers, increasing the risk of flash floods in low-lying areas, valleys, and slopes. Rain is also expected to be accompanied by a significant increase in wind speed, which may lead to sandstorms during the passage of thunderclouds.
Scattered and less intense rain in some areas of Morocco
In parts of Morocco, computer models indicate a chance of thunderstorms, particularly in mountainous areas, during the afternoon and evening. This is due to the influx of moist air masses from the Atlantic Ocean, which increases the likelihood of cumulonimbus clouds forming, causing these precipitations.
The Arab Weather Center warns against staying away from valleys and low-lying areas, which may experience flash floods. Additionally, the center advises avoiding outdoor activities during thunderstorms and staying away from exposed areas and tall trees to avoid the risk of lightning.
And God knows best.
