Arab Weather - Computer maps at the Arab Weather Center indicate a surge of a cold air mass towards the eastern Mediterranean basin, resulting in the formation of a deep low-pressure system around the island of Cyprus, moving eastward to directly affect Syria and Lebanon.

A deep low-pressure system will affect Syria and Lebanon on Monday, bringing heavy rainfall.

God willing, Syria and Lebanon will be affected by this low-pressure system starting on Monday. Therefore, there will be a noticeable and significant drop in temperatures, making the weather colder than usual for this time of year. Clouds will increase and rain will fall heavily in the northwestern regions of Syria, reaching most of Lebanon, especially the coastal and mountainous areas. The rain will be accompanied by thunderstorms and hail showers, leading to strong flow in valleys and streams and the formation of torrents, in addition to the rise in water levels in some roads and areas.

According to computer technologies at the Arab Weather Center, it is expected, God willing, that the amount of rain will reach about 100 mm in some areas of Syria and Lebanon, and such an amount is very large, especially since we are in the month of May.

The low-pressure system is also accompanied by brisk to strong winds, causing rough seas and waves reaching up to 3 meters along the Syrian and Lebanese coasts, disrupting maritime navigation. In the desert regions of Syria, these winds may cause dust storms, significantly reducing horizontal visibility.

May snow visits the mountain peaks of Lebanon on Monday

In conjunction with the impact of the low pressure system, the opportunity for snowfall and accumulation is expected on the high mountain peaks in Lebanon, especially those exceeding 1900 meters above sea level. Consequently, the Lebanese mountain peaks are expected to be covered in white on Monday, in a relatively rare sight during this time of year.

Unstable weather conditions will precede the low-pressure system on Sunday.

The low-pressure system will be preceded by a period of atmospheric instability on Sunday, with Syria and Lebanon experiencing dusty and unstable conditions, with chances of thunderstorms in scattered areas. This situation will be accompanied by locally heavy rainfall, in addition to hail that may be large in size in some geographical areas.

What about the effects of the low-pressure system on Jordan and Palestine?

Southern Levant regions, including Jordan and Palestine, are expected to remain far from the direct effects of this low-pressure system. However, the region will be affected by the extension of the cold air mass, with colder than usual conditions prevailing on Monday, and temperatures dropping below their general averages.

Clouds will also appear at different altitudes, with a chance of rain from time to time in parts of northern and central Palestine, which may extend to northern Jordan and possibly limited parts of the central regions. Winds will be active on the Palestinian coasts, leading to a noticeable increase in wave height and sea disturbance.
