An eastern wave brings rain of varying intensity to several areas of the Sultanate of Oman.

Arab Weather - An upper wave is expected to sweep towards the southern parts of the Arabian Peninsula, coinciding with the deepening of the thermal low located in the southeast of the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia. The tropical dividing line will deviate significantly over the southern Arabian Peninsula, pushing large amounts of tropical moisture across the various layers of the atmosphere. This will lead to the emergence of a state of atmospheric instability accompanied by thunderstorms in many regions, God willing.

In detail, unstable weather conditions are expected to develop in the Sultanate starting Sunday, as a prelude to the onset of rainy conditions, with scattered and random cumulus clouds forming from time to time, including parts of the Al Wusta, Dhofar and South Al Sharqiyah governorates, in addition to an increase in the intensity of the Dhofar Khareef activity in Dhofar Governorate and the city of Salalah.

During the middle of the week, the weather activity will intensify to include many regions of the Sultanate, including coastal areas overlooking the Arabian Sea. These rains will generally vary in intensity, with occasional heavy rainfall. They will be accompanied by hail showers and active surface winds that will stir up dust and dirt in some areas, in addition to significant disturbances in coastal areas overlooking the Arabian Sea.

Arab Weather advises caution against flash floods during thunderstorms, especially in valley and slope areas. It also advises caution against lightning and severe thunderstorms by taking shelter indoors. Finally, it warns beachgoers and navigators of the dangers of going out to sea due to waves exceeding four meters.

The formation of this condition is due to the rush of an easterly wave towards the region, which means the movement of winds in the upper layers from the east towards the west, accompanied by the presence of large amounts of humidity and high thermal convection in the various active layers of the atmosphere. This coincides with the deepening of the thermal low located in the southeast of the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia, which works to significantly deviate the tropical dividing line over the southern Arabian Peninsula.

It's worth noting that during the summer in the Northern Hemisphere, trade winds move northward in a zigzag pattern, carrying large amounts of moisture from tropical regions toward areas with high average solar radiation. This creates a fertile ground for the formation of cumulus clouds, which cause thunderstorms and rain, or what are locally known as monsoon rains.

Arab Weather explains that these regions do not receive rain frequently at this time of year, but at the same time, this rainfall is not considered rare, as it has occurred in some previous years.
