NASA publishes satellite images of the Emirates before and after the floods
Arabia Weather - A strong rain event hit the Emirates in April 2024, accompanied by heavy rains that exceeded what would fall in an entire year in some cities. Landsat 9 images show the city and surrounding area on April 3 and April 19, before and after the storms.
On April 19, the Landsat 9 satellite passed over the area for the first time since the storms. The image was taken using the OLI-2 (Operational Land Imager 2) satellite, and showed flooding in Jebel Ali, a town located 35 kilometers southwest of Dubai.
Water can be seen covering Sheikh Zayed Road, a main road running through Dubai and Abu Dhabi. Patches of flooded areas can also be seen in Khalifa City and Madinat Zayed, two residential areas located southeast of downtown Abu Dhabi.
The water can be seen in blue in the picture, and the floods appear in the industrial area in Jebel Ali, directly south of the port and near the green resorts and parks south of Palm Jebel Ali.
In the United Arab Emirates, a storm system brought more than a year's worth of rain to some cities earlier this week.
