The latest satellite images available through the Arab Weather app show increasing activity of cumulus clouds in the Arabian Sea. This coincides with the detection of a low-pressure area off the coast of Gujarat state, gradually moving towards the northeastern Arabian Sea. The first active tropical system is expected to form in the next few days, with expectations of it developing into a tropical depression.

With the Arabian Sea's waters warming and the atmosphere becoming more humid, Arab Weather experts expect the weather system to transform into a tropical depression accompanied by thunderstorms. This phenomenon could impact air and maritime traffic and warrants close monitoring by all those interested in weather and meteorology.

Previous tropical cyclones and cyclones formed in the Arabian Sea

October witnesses significant tropical activity in the Arabian Sea. Several powerful cyclones have been recorded in recent years, the most notable of which were:

• Cyclone Kyarr: Caused heavy rains and floods in the Sultanate of Oman.
• Hurricane Luban: It affected the coasts and caused navigational and air damage.

What are the conditions for the formation of this orbital state?

1. Warm water is a must.

Tropical conditions require warm seawater temperatures above 27°C and a depth of more than 60 meters, which the Arabian Sea currently provides (27–28°C and a depth of 3–5 km). These ideal conditions serve as fuel for the formation of cumulonimbus clouds.

2. Weak wind shear

The absence of strong winds promotes the growth of cumulus clouds, while strong winds limit the development of the depression. According to recent data, wind shear is currently weak in the Arabian Sea, increasing the likelihood of a tropical depression forming.
