Arab Weather - The latest computer simulation outputs at the Arab Weather Center indicate that large parts of the Arab world are on the verge of a period of severe and successive heat waves, starting gradually from next week, with expectations that they will continue intermittently during the remainder of July, and extend their impact into periods of August.
Long-range indicators show that high-pressure systems in the upper atmosphere will become stronger in the coming period, which will increase the chances of the formation of large heat domes leading to a significant rise in temperatures, especially in the Arabian Peninsula, Iraq and the Maghreb countries.
Weather maps indicate the development of a strong heat dome over the Arabian Peninsula starting next week, lasting for several consecutive days, causing temperatures to rise to extremely high levels.
According to current forecasts, maximum temperatures are expected to reach or exceed 50 degrees Celsius in large parts of southern Iraq, particularly the governorates of Basra and Maysan, with the possibility of approaching this level in the capital, Baghdad. The extremely hot weather will also extend to Kuwait, especially the Jahra area and its surroundings, where temperatures are expected to surpass 50 degrees Celsius.
The heat wave also includes the eastern regions of Saudi Arabia, as well as the interior and desert regions of both the United Arab Emirates and the Sultanate of Oman, where temperatures are expected to reach or exceed 50 degrees Celsius in some locations.
On the western side of the Arab world, forecasts indicate that Morocco, Algeria and Tunisia will be affected by a strong heat wave that will last for several days, leading to temperatures rising to about 40 degrees Celsius in many northern cities, while reaching or exceeding 50 degrees Celsius in desert areas, especially in central and southern Algeria.
Amid the heat waves witnessed in various parts of the world, Arab countries are expected to join the global scene of extremely hot weather in the coming period, with very high temperatures recorded, higher than their usual averages and perhaps approaching record levels in some areas for the month of July.
Although long-range forecasts remain subject to change as weather models are updated, current indicators clearly point to a relatively long and hot period that warrants continuous monitoring of weather updates.
The Arab Weather Center recommends following a number of guidelines to reduce the effects of extreme heat, most notably:
