After deadly heat waves, Europe faces the risk of floods and severe thunderstorms.

Days after a severe heat wave swept across large parts of the European continent, causing hundreds of deaths and widespread human losses, attention is now turning to a new weather threat: a strong state of instability that could lead to torrential rains and violent thunderstorms in the coming days.

As the extremely hot air mass begins to recede and temperatures gradually decrease, forecasts indicate the emergence of widespread weather disturbances affecting parts of Spain and France, especially the southern and eastern regions, in addition to southern and eastern Germany, the Czech Republic, Austria, and northern and central Italy.

This weather system is expected to move later towards the Balkans region, including countries such as Serbia, Romania and Bulgaria, amid warnings of extreme weather phenomena that may be accompanied by strong thunderstorms, strong winds and hail.

The likelihood of flash floods and torrents also increases in some areas as a result of heavy rainfall over short periods of time, especially in low-lying areas and urban centers.

This weather shift comes after an exceptional heat wave that affected several European countries, where unusually high temperatures were recorded, along with widespread health and humanitarian impacts.

At the same time, weather centers are monitoring initial indications of the possibility of a new heat wave forming during the coming month of July, but its intensity and areas of impact will remain linked to weather updates during the coming period.
