Arab Weather - Advanced computer simulation results at the Arab Weather Center showed the passage of a continuous thunderstorm belt, scientifically known as the Squall line, which is expected to affect the UAE and Oman, God willing, during the coming night and the day of tomorrow, Friday. This belt is characterized by being a series of strong thunderstorms that feed on the heat of the Arabian Gulf waters, which enhances the formation of active thunderstorm cells accompanied by heavy rain, large hail, and downdrafts.
A squall line is a continuous band or line of thunderstorms that usually forms along a cold front, as warm, moist air rises very quickly from the lower layers of the atmosphere towards the cold upper layers of the atmosphere, in conjunction with the availability of huge amounts of water vapor. These bands may sometimes be accompanied by supercell clouds, which are huge, vertical, and powerful clouds that cause severe weather phenomena such as large hail, heavy rain, and sudden downdrafts. The crossing of this band also leads to high waves and sea disturbance, which affects maritime navigation in the Arabian Gulf and the Strait of Hormuz.
The thunderstorm belt is expected to first move towards the UAE during the night hours, carrying thunderstorms and active winds, before its impact expands to include large areas of northern Oman during the dawn and daytime of Friday. The crossing of the belt will be accompanied by the formation of low clouds touching the ground, which increases the chance of reduced or zero horizontal visibility along with very heavy rain and winds.
And God knows best.
