Arab Weather - The Public Security Directorate launched the "Safe Winter" awareness campaign today, Monday, coinciding with the approach of winter. The campaign aims to promote a culture of prevention and public safety, reduce risks resulting from weather conditions, and preserve the security and safety of citizens and their property.
The Directorate affirmed that the campaign is in line with its preventative approach to dealing with various weather conditions, by harnessing all human and logistical capabilities, activating joint coordination between its formations and field units, and strengthening partnerships with relevant ministries and national institutions.
Civil Defense Director Brigadier General Nasser Al-Suwailemeen explained that the campaign comes under the direction of the Director of Public Security, as part of the directorate's responsibility as a first responder to incidents and hazards that may accompany the winter season. He emphasized that efforts are focused on managing the situation on the ground with a high degree of professionalism, through precise operational plans based on assessment, monitoring, and immediate response to incidents.
He stated that Civil Defense teams have begun raising their level of preparedness and readiness at all field centers, and updating emergency plans for dealing with floods, landslides, and traffic accidents resulting from weather conditions. He emphasized that the readiness of heavy machinery and equipment, particularly rescue, firefighting, and diving equipment, is subject to regular maintenance and continuous monitoring to ensure rapid response.
Al-Suwailem called on citizens to follow public safety guidelines, ensure that heating equipment is in good condition, and not hesitate to call the emergency number (911) when needed for assistance.
For his part, Brigadier General Raed Al-Assaf, Director of the Traffic Department, explained that reducing traffic accidents and providing a safe traffic environment are among the campaign's main objectives. He noted that intensive awareness programs will be implemented in cooperation with the Media Department and Community Police before the vehicle inspection campaign begins on November 1.
Al-Assaf said that the vehicles will be technically inspected by the traffic departments, in coordination with the Royal Department for Environmental Protection and technical teams from the Maintenance Department, to ensure they are ready to drive in winter conditions. He explained that if there are technical observations, the vehicle will be given a week to rectify its condition before a violation is issued by visiting the traffic departments and evening mobile licensing departments, while sound vehicles will be given a special card proving that they have passed the technical inspection.
He explained that an SMS message will be sent to all drivers whose vehicles have been inspected, detailing their technical condition. They will also be able to identify the technical parts of the vehicle that will be inspected through the QR code that will be placed on the campaign notification sheet.
The Security Directorate, through its Media and Community Policing Departments, in collaboration with relevant departments, is preparing to launch a package of awareness programs and messages in the coming days. These programs aim to guide citizens toward proper winter behavior and avoid the risks associated with weather conditions, ensuring their own safety and that of others.
