The National Multi-Hazard Early Warning Center issued Report No. 3 on the developments of Tropical Storm Shakti in the Arabian Sea and its potential impact on the Sultanate of Oman. The text of the report is as follows:

The latest satellite images and analyses by the National Multi-Hazard Early Warning Centres indicate that the centre of Tropical Storm Shakti is located northeast of the Arabian Sea at longitude 64.3 east and latitude 21.5 north, with wind speeds around the centre estimated at 45-55 knots (81-99 km/h). The centre of the storm is 400 km away from Ras Al Hadd.

“Forecasts indicate that tropical storm Shakti will continue to move southwest towards the central Arabian Sea, with active wind speeds around the center ranging from 65-55 knots (90-113 km/h) with the possibility of it developing into a first-degree hurricane. The center of the tropical condition is expected to be (200-300 km) away from the coasts of the Sultanate of Oman before the gradual progression of the condition’s path to the west towards the central parts starting from Sunday evening until Monday morning with the gradual decrease and weakening of the tropical condition.”

The tropical condition (Shakti) is accompanied by indirect effects on the Sultanate of Oman, including the flow of clouds over the coastal areas of the South Al Sharqiyah and Al Wusta Governorates, which may lead to variable rainfall with limited wave height (3-5 meters) and the extension of sea water in low-lying areas and creeks, coinciding with periods of high tide on the coasts of the South Al Sharqiyah, Al Wusta and Al Wusta Governorates.

Specialists at the National Multi-Hazard Early Warning Center are monitoring the latest developments around the clock.
The Civil Aviation Authority calls for the necessity of following up on weather bulletins and reports issued by it.
