Weather disturbances in Jazan... Why are thunderstorms more intense in this region?
Arab Weather - The Jazan region will be affected today and tomorrow, Wednesday, by the formation of strong thunderstorms, God willing. These clouds will be accompanied by heavy rain and hail, which may be dense and large at times. You can find out more details in this report issued by the Arab Weather Center.
Why are thunderstorms more intense in the Jazan region?
According to meteorologists at the Arab Weather Center, the intensity of thunderstorms in the Jazan region is attributed to several dynamic and physical atmospheric factors. The first is the mountainous terrain near the coast, where rising humid air coming from the Red Sea leads to rapid updraft, a primary factor in the formation of cumulonimbus clouds with strong convection.
Second, the high relative humidity on the Red Sea surface provides a rich source of water vapor, which promotes condensation and the vertical development of clouds. Third, high daytime temperatures increase convective instability, facilitating the formation of strong updrafts that lead to lightning, thunder, and high rainfall intensity.
Upper-level winds also play a role in enhancing air circulation within clouds, increasing the likelihood of strong thunderstorms.
And God knows best.
