Jordan | Does today's first winter weather signal a heavy rainy season?
Arab Weather - Sinan Khalaf - The weather conditions and the rain showers that fell across the northern parts of the Kingdom today have raised many questions about the reality of this year's rainy season. Some believe the rains are early and indicative of a heavy rainy season, which is completely untrue.
Is the first winter of the year considered early?
It is important to note here that what is known as the "first winter" statistically often affects the Kingdom in the second half of October, while rainfall before this date is generally considered "random" and "irregular," local in nature, and affects narrow and limited geographical areas, which is exactly what the Kingdom experienced today.
So is today's early rain a sign of a strong rainy season?
Regarding the relationship between the "first winter" and the rainy season and its intensity, the weather forecasting team at "Arab Weather" explains that, to date, statistical studies have not found any direct or indirect link between the timing of the onset of the rainy season and its intensity. This means that an early first winter does not necessarily indicate a strong rainy season.
Here, we at Arab Weather app would like to remind you of what happened during the 2013/2014 rainy season, when the Kingdom was exposed early to the famous snowstorm "Alexa" in the fall. Although the storm was early, it was followed by the longest rainy season the Kingdom has known in decades. Rainfall did not exceed ten millimeters in the most important agricultural areas in the north and center of the Kingdom throughout the days of Al-Mubarakiya and most of the days of Al-Khamisiniya. Then came the "winter storm Masarra" to save the rainy season from the specter of imminent drought! .. So, early winter or early snow does not necessarily mean a strong season.
