Al-Musnad: The Wasm season begins tomorrow and the night begins to extend at the expense of the day.

Arab Weather - With the start of the Wasm season in Saudi Arabia approaching next Thursday, astronomy expert Dr. Abdullah Al-Misnad explained that this period will witness a prominent astronomical phenomenon, with the nights becoming longer than the days, and this difference gradually increasing as the season progresses and we move north.

Time differences between regions of the Kingdom

Al-Musnad explained, via his account on the X platform, that the differences in the length of the night vary from one region to another within the Kingdom, as the length of the night on the first night of Al-Wasm is:

• 12 hours and 37 minutes in the far north of the Kingdom.
• 12 hours and 27 minutes in the central regions.
• 12 hours and 15 minutes in the southern regions.

Al-Musnad pointed out that the daily rate of increase in night length also varies from one region to another, with the increase being 1 minute and 12 seconds in the north, 52 seconds in the center, and only 34 seconds in the south, making the change more pronounced in the northern regions.

The peak time difference is in December.

According to Al-Musnad calculations, the difference reaches its peak on December 6, with the longest night in the north lasting 13 hours and 49 minutes, in the center 13 hours and 19 minutes, and in the south 12 hours and 49 minutes.

Astronomical explanation of the phenomenon

Al-Musnad emphasized that these time differences are a natural phenomenon resulting from the tilt of the Earth's axis as it revolves around the sun, adding, "The further north we move, the longer the nights and shorter the days at this time of year." He noted that this regular and precise change reflects the greatness of the cosmic order created by the Creator.
