Arab Weather - Weather maps at the Arab Weather Center indicate that the Levant region, including the Kingdom of Jordan, will be affected on Friday, April 17, 2026, by a Khamsin low-pressure system, bringing with it a further rise in temperatures and the gradual development of unstable weather conditions accompanied by dust and thunderstorm activity.
God willing, Jordan and the Levant will be affected on Friday by a Khamsin low-pressure system. As a result, temperatures will be about 10 degrees Celsius warmer than usual, and Khamsin weather conditions will prevail throughout the day, with relatively hot and generally dusty conditions, especially in the afternoon. Hot conditions are expected in the Jordan Valley and Dead Sea areas.
Gradually, a state of atmospheric instability is expected to begin affecting large areas of the Levant, where cumulonimbus clouds will increase, especially during the afternoon and evening hours, and intensify at night. The chances of thunderstorms will become favorable in several areas, and it is not unlikely that the rain will be locally heavy in some geographical areas and may be accompanied by local hail showers.
The winds will be light to moderate easterly at the beginning of the day, turning into active southwesterly winds in many areas in the afternoon, with increased dust levels in the atmosphere, making the weather noticeably dusty.
Thunderstorms are also expected to be accompanied by strong downdrafts in their vicinity, with gusts potentially exceeding 70 km/h. This can lead to the formation of dense dust storms and sandstorms around the thunderstorms, a result of the powerful downdrafts. These storms can then gradually expand to affect areas far from the clouds, and may even reach cities.
For example, a thunderstorm may develop in the eastern desert regions, generating strong downdrafts that stir up dust and form a sandstorm. This storm may begin locally but quickly and suddenly spread to wider areas, including city centers. Such winds necessitate securing outdoor belongings and driving with extreme caution, especially in desert areas.
The Gulf of Aqaba is also expected to experience an increase in wave height during the aforementioned period, as a result of the wind activity accompanying the weather conditions, which will lead to a noticeable sea disturbance and an increase in wave height compared to normal days.
And God knows best.
