A snowstorm is affecting northern Iraq today, with heavy snow at low elevations.

Arab Weather - Northern Iraq and the Kurdistan Region will be affected today, Monday, December 29, 2025, by a strong snowstorm as a result of the region being affected by the passage of a low-pressure system accompanied by a very cold air mass of polar origins, which led to a remarkable change in the weather and a significant and noticeable drop in temperatures.

According to the latest weather analysis in Arab Weather, the effects of the low-pressure system have begun to center in the north of the country, where rainfall quickly turned into heavy snow over the mountainous highlands. It is expected that during the coming hours the snowfall will intensify and descend to lower altitudes, with varying intensity and density of snow, along with local snowstorms resulting from increased wind speed and reduced horizontal visibility, especially over the high mountain peaks.

The snowstorm is accompanied by active to strong winds that cause a noticeable drop in perceived temperatures and increase the feeling of extreme cold.
