Arab Weather - The Arab Weather Regional Center named the low-pressure system that will begin to affect the Kingdom on Monday/Tuesday night "The Good Depression". It is classified as a fourth-degree (highly effective) system, which is the penultimate degree in the scale of classification of low-pressure systems created by Arab Weather.
The upcoming low-pressure system is expected to be exceptionally rainy and will provide a significant boost to the rainy season, God willing. Its classification has been raised for several reasons, most notably the forecast of heavy rainfall in various parts of northern and central Jordan, exceeding 100 mm in some areas. This will lead to flash floods, significant overflowing of wadis, and a rise in water levels across wide areas. Additionally, a significant drop in atmospheric pressure is expected at the center of the low-pressure system, causing strong winds and a storm to sweep across the Kingdom on Tuesday, particularly in the south and east. The same numerical simulations also indicate the possibility of snow showers over the high mountain peaks of northern and central Jordan, including the high mountains of Jerash and Ajloun, and the mountain peaks of Balqa and Amman. These snow showers are expected to extend to the peaks of the Shara Mountains later on Tuesday evening and into Wednesday night.
A highly active cold front is expected to begin crossing the northern part of the Kingdom shortly before midnight, bringing heavy rainfall, thunderstorms, and hail, which may be particularly heavy over the mountainous areas. After midnight, the front will continue its movement, reaching the central regions and bringing very heavy and continuous rainfall, leading to flash floods, overflowing wadis, and a rise in water levels across wide areas. This rainfall will also be accompanied by thunderstorms and heavy hail.
Low clouds touching the ground surface cross the mountainous highlands, leading to the formation of fog and reduced horizontal visibility.
The effects of this air front reach the eastern regions of the Kingdom in the form of intermittent rainfall, while the southern regions of the Kingdom remain free from rainfall.
This coincides with strong southwesterly winds, with severe gusts in some areas, and may lead to dust storms in desert regions.
A noticeable drop in temperatures is expected on Tuesday, with temperatures falling 5-7 degrees Celsius below average for this time of year. The weather will be cold across most regions and very cold in the high mountain areas. Windy, cloudy, and rainy conditions are expected in the north, central, and eastern parts of the Kingdom, with rain extending to Karak Governorate. The rain will be heavy at times, accompanied by hail, which may be particularly dense over the high mountain peaks.
Snow showers are also possible in the morning hours, which may sometimes accumulate over the high northern and central mountain peaks, including the peaks of the Jerash and Ajloun mountains, and the mountain peaks in Balqa and the capital Amman. In the afternoon, precipitation is expected to reach parts of the Tafila Governorate, and will be in the form of snow showers over the peaks of Qadisiyah and Rashadiyah.
Strong southwesterly to westerly winds will blow across the Kingdom in all regions, with strong gusts to storms, especially in the south and east of the Kingdom, causing dust and sand to blow on the outer desert roads and border crossings (especially those that do not experience rainfall).
The weather will be generally cold in all regions, and very cold in the mountainous areas, especially the high ones. It will be cloudy and windy with rain expected at intervals, God willing, in parts of the north, central and eastern parts of the Kingdom, in addition to parts of the Karak and Tafila governorates and the western highlands of Ma’an. The rain will be accompanied by hail at times.
The precipitation is expected to be in the form of snow showers over the peaks of the Sharah Mountains, including the Rashadiyah and Qadisiyah peaks in the Tafilah Governorate, and the peaks of Shobak, Petra District, Southern Taybeh and the west of Ma’an Governorate.
Strong winds are blowing across the Sharah Mountains in the south of the Kingdom, with gusts estimated to exceed 110 km/h, requiring preparedness and attention. Meanwhile, the winds are active to strong westerly in all regions, with strong gusts at intervals.
