Arab Weather - Specialists at the Arab Weather Regional Center are monitoring the latest outcomes of computer models monitoring the temperature of water bodies. They noted that the eastern Mediterranean basin is witnessing a rise in water surface temperature, reaching 29 to 31 degrees Celsius, which may have exceeded its usual rates by approximately 6 to 7 degrees Celsius. The Mediterranean is likely to witness further rises in light of the dominance of hot air masses during the summer, especially the expansion of hot air from the African continent towards the European continent.
Meteorologists at the Arab Weather Center said that the rising temperature of the Mediterranean Sea leads to increased evaporation, which increases the humidity of the air above the sea. This humid air can cause dense clouds and thunderstorms during the fall as cold upper basins pass through. The large temperature differences between the sea and the adjacent land can also enhance updrafts and downdrafts, increasing atmospheric instability during the fall.
Meteorologists at the Arab Weather Center indicated that these warm and humid weather conditions in the Mediterranean Sea may be a fertile environment contributing to the formation of Mediterranean storms, which are similar to tropical cyclones, but occur in the Mediterranean region.
Mediterranean storms are tropical cyclone-like weather phenomena that occur in the Mediterranean Sea. The name "medicane" comes from combining the words "mediterranean" (Mediterranean) and "hurricane" (hurricane). These storms have characteristics similar to tropical cyclones, such as a calm eye and strong winds circling the center.
God knows best.
