France experienced a dramatic weather change in just a few hours, following a record-breaking heatwave that was followed by an explosion of violent thunderstorms accompanied by lightning, thunder, heavy rain and strong winds, leading to widespread disruption in several regions.
These developments come after an intense and unprecedented heat wave, both in terms of severity and duration, that hit the country in recent days, during which record temperatures were recorded that France had never witnessed before, contributing to increased atmospheric instability.
The French electricity distribution company Enedis announced that the powerful thunderstorms that hit several regions, from Saturday evening until Sunday morning, caused power outages for about 63,000 homes.

The effects were concentrated in areas near the capital, Paris, and central France, where tens of thousands of subscribers were affected by power outages as a result of the severity of the storms.
The company confirmed that this situation came directly after the record-breaking heat wave, which contributed to exacerbating the atmospheric disturbance.
She also explained that her field teams are continuing to work on restoring electricity as quickly as possible, while emphasizing public safety measures and calling on citizens to avoid touching fallen wires or any elements related to the electricity grid.
In a related context, the storms caused widespread material damage, especially in northern France, where some cities experienced strong winds and heavy rain over a short period of time.
Fire crews also carried out hundreds of interventions during Saturday night into Sunday, mostly due to falling trees and flooding of homes, in addition to fires and scattered accidents, with a limited number of injuries recorded.
The French railway company also announced disruptions to regional train traffic in the north of the country, after trees fell on railway lines, causing a temporary halt to transport.
