Arab Weather - These days, we recall one of the exceptional weather conditions that affected the Kingdom, specifically the capital, Amman, on the morning of Monday, May 29, 2023. The country was under the influence of a severe state of atmospheric instability, which led to the formation of massive cumulonimbus clouds, accompanied by heavy rains and heavy hail, along with severe thunderstorms.
Various areas of the capital, such as Shafa Badran, Al-Jubaiha, and West Amman, witnessed an unusual fall of large hailstones, as a result of the vertical development of cumulus clouds within the atmosphere, where temperatures in these areas reached below freezing.
Hailstones repeatedly rise and fall within cumulus clouds due to upward air currents, causing them to acquire additional layers of ice before descending to the Earth's surface and accumulating in some areas, causing significant damage.
This hailstorm caused direct material damage, particularly to vehicle bodies and windows, as a result of the heavy, large hail, a rare occurrence in the Kingdom.
According to the latest weather updates issued by the Arab Weather Center, there are no current indications that such weather conditions will recur in the foreseeable future. It should be noted that such phenomena are considered rare and exceptional in Jordan and occur only occasionally.
And God knows best.
