Arab Weather - Arab Weather maps indicate that the Kingdom will be affected, God willing, starting Friday, August 8, 2025, and for several days, by a heat wave that will vary in intensity from one day to the next. This heat wave is caused by an extremely hot air mass with a blazing center extending from the northeast of the Arabian Peninsula directly towards the Levant. It is accompanied by a strong high pressure system in the upper atmosphere that is fueling the heat dome phenomenon.
According to Arab Weather maps, the heat wave coming to the Kingdom is the first of its kind this year. Weather forecasters confirmed that previous hot spells didn't rise to the level of scientific criteria to qualify as a heat wave. Specifically, the impact of hot air masses in previous periods didn't significantly affect the western highlands, in stark contrast to the extremely hot air mass expected at the end of the week.
Based on what has been presented, we present to you five essential pieces of information you should know about the heat wave approaching the Kingdom, God willing:
According to Arab Weather maps, the heat wave is expected to begin on Friday and continue for several days. During this period, most Jordanian cities are expected to record their highest temperatures since the beginning of the current summer season, ranging between 38 and 43 degrees Celsius in many Jordanian villages and cities, exceeding the 40-degree Celsius threshold in neighborhoods of the capital, Amman, especially the eastern parts, while reaching the mid-forties in the southern and eastern Badia regions.
Arab Weather maps show the scorching impact of a very hot air mass on the Jordan Valley, particularly the central and northern regions, including the Dead Sea, as well as Aqaba Governorate, where maximum temperatures are expected to exceed 45 degrees Celsius, and it's possible they could even reach 50 degrees Celsius in some of these areas, especially the central Jordan Valley.
This is due to the geographical nature of these regions, and the source and angle of influence of the extremely hot air mass on the Kingdom.
Minimum temperatures are also expected to rise significantly compared to current nights, and the weather will be warm and muted during the nights, with temperatures much higher than usual at night.
Arab Weather maps show that the heat wave coincides with an influx of moisture into the middle and upper layers of the atmosphere, coinciding with high-level heating of the Earth's surface. This will result in the appearance of medium and high clouds, and there is a possibility of scattered and random thunderstorms, especially in parts of the south and east of the Kingdom, starting Saturday afternoon.
This type of cloud is usually accompanied by what are called sudden downdrafts, which are strong enough to cause extremely dense dust waves in desert areas.
Returning to the climate archive, it is quite common for the Kingdom to be affected by heat waves during the summer, especially in July and August, which are considered two of the hottest months of the year. Therefore, experiencing a heat wave during this period is normal, but it requires taking several precautions, including:
And God knows best.
