Details of the investigation of the crescent of Shaban 1444, according to the Astronomical Society in Jeddah

The Astronomical Society in Jeddah announced the full details of the investigation of the crescent, as the moon will reach the conjunction on Monday, February 20, 2023 (the day of investigation) at 10:05 am Mecca time, moving from the west of the sun to its east.

And the sun sets from the horizon of Makkah Al-Mukarramah (the day of investigation) at 06:21 pm, and at that time the moon will be above the horizon at a height of (3) degrees and the angle that separates it from the sun is “elongation” (5) degrees and its illumination is (0.3%) and the moon will set at The time is 06:39 in the evening, that is, it will remain on the horizon (18 minutes) after sunset, and thus the conditions for the beginning of the month will be “astronomically” fulfilled.

She pointed out that seeing the moon with the naked eye or a telescope is not possible because of its young age, poor lighting, and short stay above the horizon.

And she noted that this will be followed by another phase of the moon called “the crescent”, which means seeing the crescent of the new moon easily after its conjugation with the sun and its exit from the position (al-mahaq) and a sufficient distance from the sun for the light to appear on its surface, and this opportunity will be ripe for the next day.

He pointed out that on Tuesday, February 21, 2023, the sun will set from the horizon of Makkah Al-Mukarramah at 06:22 pm, explaining that at that time the moon will be above the horizon at a height of (16) degrees, and the angle separating it from the sun is “elongation” (18) degrees and its illumination. (2.5%) and it will be easy to see with the naked eye , and the moon will set at 07:43 pm, after (an hour and 21 minutes) after sunset.

And she stressed that what was previously mentioned is an explanation for the scientific side only, and that the beginning of the month of Sha'ban will be determined based on what will be issued by the Crescent Chamber of the Supreme Court.
