Arab Weather - The latest weather analyses from the Arab Weather Center indicate that the development of tropical conditions in the Arabian Sea could, at times, reduce the chances of summer rainfall in the highlands of the southwest of the Kingdom, including the regions of Abha, Al-Baha, and Taif.
The scientific reason behind this is that tropical depressions and storms draw large amounts of tropical moisture from the Arabian Sea and the Indian Ocean toward the center of the tropical condition, cutting off the moisture supply, which is considered the primary factor in the formation of seasonal cumulus clouds over the mountainous highlands.
In such cases, the daily activity of summer clouds is noticeably weakened, and the chances of rain are reduced, especially if the tropical condition is strong and close to the southern coasts of the Arabian Peninsula.
On the other hand, in some scenarios, tropical conditions approach land in Oman or Yemen, pumping large amounts of moisture into the atmosphere in the southwestern parts of the Arabian Peninsula. This can lead to the formation of strong cumulus clouds in summer resorts, accompanied by heavy thunderstorms that sometimes last for several days.
Therefore, meteorologists closely monitor the developments of any tropical event, as it has a direct and indirect impact on the rainfall pattern in the southwestern highlands during the summer season.
